In motorsport, few places are as legendary as the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany. As the track approaches its centenary in 2027, Porsche is releasing a special edition 911 GT3 to commemorate this milestone, along with an equally unique timepiece: the Porsche Design Chronograph 1 – 911 GT3 100 Jahre Nürburgring.

This chronograph, crafted specifically for owners of the anniversary edition 911 GT3, blends Porsche Design's historic instrument aesthetics with details directly inspired by the car and the legendary track.

A Modern Interpretation of an Icon

This timepiece belongs to the venerable Chronograph 1 series, originally designed by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche in 1972. Its distinctive black instrument aesthetic remains central to the design, but the anniversary edition incorporates numerous details developed specifically for the 911 GT3 100 Jahre Nürburgring.

The case measures 40.80 mm in diameter and 14.15 mm in thickness, crafted from titanium. A black titanium carbide coating gives the case a distinctive dark appearance while enhancing the technical and functional aspects of the Chronograph 1 series.

Water resistant to 100 meters, the dial is protected by a sapphire crystal with a double-sided, seven-layer anti-reflective coating. A screw-down crown enhances the watch's robustness, and the sapphire crystal case back is secured with screws and engraved with the unique serial number of each limited edition timepiece.

The dial features an instrument-dial style. The black dial adheres to Porsche Design's decades-long commitment to functionality in chronographs. White numerals, markers, and hands create a striking contrast, while a tachymeter scale is located on the outer edge of the dial.

The chronograph layout places the 30-minute counter at 12 o'clock, the 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock, and the small seconds hand at 9 o'clock. A German-English bilingual date and day display is located at 3 o'clock, combining practicality with a clear and legible dial layout.

The sub-dial at 9 o'clock features one of the most distinctive details of this edition: a green aviator pattern inspired by the forests surrounding the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The dial also bears the Nürburgring logo, directly connecting to the track the watch commemorates.

To ensure nighttime visibility, the hands and markers are coated with Super-LumiNova, maintaining excellent legibility even in low-light conditions.

Swiss Official Chronometer Certified Automatic Chronograph

This timepiece is powered by the Porsche Design WERK 01.140 movement, an automatic chronograph based on the Sellita movement and certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC).

This movement vibrates at 28,800 times per hour and has a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. Through the sapphire crystal case back, the custom-designed rotor is one of the most captivating elements of the watch.

Instead of using a traditional decorative rotor, Porsche Design has replicated the wheels of the anniversary edition 911 GT3. Featuring a California gold finish and black center-lock wheels with the GT3 logo, it effectively incorporates design elements from the car into the watch.

The Porsche interior leather strap also connects to the 911 GT3. The main strap is crafted from genuine black Porsche interior leather, adorned with vents, a green fabric lining, and GT silver contrast stitching.

This color scheme aims to echo the interior materials and colors of the anniversary edition car.

Porsche Design also offers a green fabric Velcro strap, providing an alternative to the leather strap. Both straps can be changed without tools using the brand's quick-change system, allowing the watch to be adjusted in seconds.

This Chronograph 1 – 911 GT3 100 Jahre Nürburgring watch is not a standalone product from Porsche Design, but rather designed as a companion timepiece for the anniversary edition GT3. From its black titanium case and dashboard-inspired dial to the GT3 wheel rotors and Porsche interior leather strap, almost every major detail is meticulously crafted around the characteristics of this sports car and the Nürburgring racetrack.
