KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Auburn doesnt have to worry about passing to remain in the running for a Southeastern Conference title. Nick Marshall rushed for 214 of Auburns 444 yards Saturday as the seventh-ranked Tigers needed just nine pass attempts to roll to a 55-23 victory over Tennessee. Auburn also scored on a kickoff return and a punt return - the first time the Tigers have ever done both in the same game -- and set an NCAA single-game record by averaging 44.85 yards on seven combined kickoff and punt returns. "I still believe we can throw the football," Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. "Theres no doubt in my mind we can, but when you dont have to, you dont." Auburn had attempted just nine passes last week in a 35-17 victory over Arkansas. Marshalls third and final pass completion Saturday was a 25-yard touchdown pass to C.J. Uzomah with 6:36 remaining in the first quarter as the Tigers (9-1, 5-1 SEC) earned their sixth straight win to remain in control of their destiny in the SEC Western Division race. Marshall ran for two touchdowns on just 14 carries and threw for a third score. Tre Mason rushed for 117 yards and three touchdowns as Auburn averaged 8.4 yards per carry and had the most yards rushing by a Tennessee opponent since Alabama ran for 457 in a 56-28 victory over the Volunteers in 1986. "They couldnt really stop the run, so we just kept our foot on their throat and just ran it down their throat," Marshall said. Chris Davis put Auburn ahead for good and broke a 13-all tie in the second quarter with an 85-yard punt return, Auburns longest since 1970 and the third-longest in school history. Corey Grant returned the second-half kickoff 90 yards for another Auburn touchdown. According to Auburns sports information department, the Tigers average of 44.85 yards on seven combined kickoff and punt returns set an NCAA single-game record, breaking the previous mark of 41.8 per return set by Florida State in a 56-21 loss to Virginia Tech in 1974. "Weve got one of the best kickers in college football, one of the best punters in college football," Malzahn said. "Now were starting to get the return game right." Rajion Neal rushed for 124 yards and Michael Palardy kicked three field goals for Tennessee (4-6, 1-5), which dropped its third straight game. The Vols must win the rest of their games to become bowl eligible and avoid their fourth consecutive losing season. Tennessee hosts Vanderbilt on Nov. 23 and closes the regular season Nov. 30 at Kentucky. Tennessee hasnt had four straight losing seasons since 1903-06. "This senior class now, theyre going to be defined by how they finish," Tennessee coach Butch Jones said. "How do they finish their careers?" Tennessee was playing its fifth straight opponent ranked 11th or higher and was facing a ranked foe for the seventh time in eight games. According to STATS LLC, Tennessee is the first team since Pittsburgh in 1993 to play seven ranked teams in an eight-game stretch within the same season. Auburn entered the day leading the SEC with 306.2 yards rushing, 69 more than anyone else in the league. Tennessee was allowing 5.1 yards per carry and a league-high 201.7 yards rushing per game. Both trends continued Saturday. Every time Tennessee seized the momentum, Auburn regained control by running the ball. "Our mindset is to score every time we touch the ball," Mason said. "We believe. And when you believe, you can achieve." After Neal broke at least three tackles on a spectacular 17-yard touchdown run in the first play of the second quarter to put the Vols ahead 13-6, Auburn tied the game less than a minute later on a two-play, 75-yard drive. Marshall started the drive with a 62-yard keeper and Mason followed by running 13 yards around the left end without getting touched. Marshall made a rare mistake when he threw an interception that Jacques Smith returned 18 yards for a touchdown that cut Auburns lead to 27-20 with 1:28 left in the half, but the quarterback redeemed himself 37 seconds later by racing 38 yards around the left end untouched for a touchdown that restored Auburns 14-point advantage. "Even when we had individuals in position, we couldnt get him down," Jones said. Tennessee also couldnt slow down Auburns returners. The Vols entered the day ranked 27th among all Football Bowl Subdivision teams in punt coverage, but they gave up two long punt returns Saturday. Davis fumbled one punt at the Auburn 15, then picked the ball up and raced down the left sideline for an 85-yard touchdown. Davis also had a 42-yard punt return that led to Auburns first touchdown of the game. Mason set up Auburns final touchdown of the first half by returning a kickoff to the Tennessee 45. Grant extended the Tigers lead to 41-20 with his 90-yard kickoff return that opened the second half. Tennessee never threatened again. Cheap Running Shoes Uk . The Raptors two leading scorers were never able to co-exist the way they hoped or the team had envisioned, but individually DeRozan was thriving, in the midst of a career season. Cheap Wholesale Running Shoes . Im very excited about the playoffs, particularly in the Western Conference with amazing match-ups, as well as the wonderful local story in the Toronto Raptors. It should be a blast. Here are my predictions, but based upon my lousy prognostications during the NCAA Tournament, you might be better off going the other way on some of mine - particularly with the Raptors, who I hope and pray are able to win an incredibly difficult match-up. Wholesale Running Shoes Shoes . Halak did not get the start in the Washington Capitals Tuesday night game against the St.It’s a helluva bowl game, but one TCU has little interest playing in. The Horned Frogs let it be known earlier this month they thought they deserved to be one of the four teams in the inaugural College Football Playoff, and they did little to hide their displeasure. They aren’t wrong in feeling this way after a 55-3 rout of Iowa State in the final week of the regular season dropped them from third in the CFP rankings to sixth, a byproduct of a less enticing semifinal matchup from a tv ratings standpoint. TCU’s consolation is a Peach Bowl matchup with a very good Ole Miss team, and despite earlier jokes, the Horned Frogs will surely be ready to go come New Year’s Eve. As for the Rebels, there was a time this season they were looking like playoff contenders much more than the Frogs. After four less than impressive out of conference wins to open the year (which put them in line with just about every other big program in the nation) Ole Miss made waves by handing Alabama their only loss of the season and following that up with a big win over a Texas A&M team that hadn’t yet been exposed as the Top 25 fraud they turned out to be. It looked for a time this would be the season of Mississippi football, but back-to-back losses to LSU and Auburn all but expunged the Rebels’ playoff hopes. Mississippi will be heading into the Peach Bowl on a high note however, having beaten their in-state rivals the Mississippi State Bulldogs and ultimately knocking them out of the College Football Playoff. TCU is a fun offence to watch. They love to air it out and, led by Heisman candidate Trevone Boykin, had one of the best passing attacks in the NCAA. While they ranked fifth in offensive yards and seventh in passing, TCU scored more points than any team other than Baylor. The Horned Frogs scored more than 40 points in a game eight times this year and their 82 points against Texas Tech was one of the biggest outcomes of the year. Boykin found himself in the Top 10 in many passing categories as well but what made him one of the best QBs in the nation this year, second best if we’re to believe the Heisman voters, was his dual threat ability. Boykin’s 642 rushing yards and eight scores on the ground were amongst tthe best among quarterbacks that could throw as well.dddddddddddd Something has to give however because as good as TCU’s offence proved this season, Ole Miss’ defence was almost as good. The Rebels finished 13th in the nation giving up only 321 yards per game. They’re particularly good against the pass as well. TCU faced just one defence as good against the pass as Ole Miss this season – Texas – and beat them 48-10. While Boykin was held under 300 combined yards, he did create three combined touchdowns against the Longhorns. Ole Miss finished with a middle-of-the-pack offence this year, with more success coming through the air than on the ground. Senior quarterback Bo Wallace had a solid year and spent a couple weeks this year on different pundits’ Heisman Watches in the honourable mentions section. Boykin’s the star behind centre in this matchup, but Wallace could put up similar numbers if he has a strong finisher to his collegiate career. The Horned Frogs defence put up respectable numbers this year as well. While their defensive side of the ball doesn’t run over opponents like the offence (if it did TCU would be a helluva lot harder to keep out of the College Football Playoff) but ranked a decent 31st in the country. There’s a reason TCU probably belonged in the College Football Playoff, they’re a very good team; and the -3 line heading into the game seems a little low. This should be a great game but the Horned Frogs should only strengthen their argument they belonged in the Top 4 with a win over Ole Miss. Eye on Sunday CB Senquez Golson, FS Cody Prewitt, Ole Miss There’s still plenty of time for this to change, but as of right now there isn’t expected to be many first or maybe even second rounders playing in the Peach Bowl. Two members of the Ole Miss secondary, Golson and Prewitt, are probably the top NFL prospects in this game, and each has a chance to sneak into the second round. DT Chucky Hunter, TCU Lots of good college players on the Horned Frogs, but not many of their draft eligibles are considered desirable to NFL teams. Hunter is the top ranked prospect on TCU right now, but at this point shouldn’t expect to hear his name called until the middle rounds. ' ' '
